ENTRY 4 — Ethical Dilemma
To burn is to waste, as the matter is combusted and turned into carbon monoxide the fuse disappears. We breath the smoke and consider it air, but at the end of the life of our unknown accessory there is a fully damaged piece of paper. It was damaged by plasma, the fourth state of matter beyond gas, as fire is plasma even though we don't know it. Lighters are our plasma devices, to help us create fire. We look a little advanced with our blue and orange flames poking out the tops of our rectangular thumb toy, and then we begin to burn the paper of a cigarette. This complicated process is all enabled by the Bic lighter manufacturer. To have a Bic is to flick our red tiny flicker flame behind hollow eyes. We are masters of this fire as we are sophisticated. We can never escape this society which allows us to smoke, except in continental divide. There are two things I must convey. Smoking is not bad for you and everyone should do it. These two statements fit together nicely and may be uttered quite convincingly. But this same society is a complicated language which prevents both claims from being acted out in your life. This society claims nicotine is bad for your lungs and prohibits minors from buying them. In effect, your admission into society comes at the cost of your reputation as a smoker. And the same is true with houses and jobs. But there is some kind of man who this applies to, and that is the homeless man. He may have no job, but he is employed in the daily task of servicing his needs. He lives on the streets. He is by proxy a member of working society, albeit he lives on the curb. There is nothing wrong with the homeless man, except that he is basically you. It is a person who is missing his lighter, his firestarter. He has come to eat with the intention of staying, but his intentions will be subverted, although he is bedecked with all the trappings of sophistication. He, like the smoker, is the rebel, and the ideal person, the ideal American as it is precisely, and he may learn or experience things the sophisticated only dream of. But it may be closer to adopting a smoking habit, like a vice to occupy his neighborhood, but it is not wrong, and he will not be arrested and may last a very long time outside.
